What Is Boston T Parties?
This is the story of a city, a summer, two girls, and an attempted escape from suburban sprawl.
And Who Am I?
That’s one secret I’ll never tell. Kidding. A coveted source of black comedy, angsty dramady, and teen horror fodder, I am a suburban white girl. I grew up in Sherborn, population 4,000 plus or minus a few horsies. I spent the past few years in Manhattan and Paris, but now I’m back, for a while, to discover Boston and offer it to you, fresh from the oven, on a snark-free (finally!) platter. Enjoy, or don’t; either way I’d love your feedback and advice!
And Who is K?
Somewhere between getting uncomfortably tipsy on a Sunday night and consequently experiencing interminable sleep latency, I decided to write my formal introduction to the Boston bloggers’ stratosphere—So, I am K—the sarcastic, slightly cynical, but nonetheless endearing (at least I hope), sidekick, and happy to be. If there’s one thing I can contribute to T parties, other than effortless drollery (note: sarcasm), it’s my genuine affection for bean town; every time I pop the suburbia bubble, driving like a dream on 90—not gonna lie—I get über sentimental. And by the time I pay my outrageous $1.25 to the tax collector in latex gloves and loop by B.U., I’m fully inundated with flashbacks of previous city sojourns. To me, the city means past experiences of summer, shopping, seafood, and some serious free concerts. This years’ go-around, however, I’d like to be less sentimental and more anticipatory. So, the plan is to foresee and forewarn fun to be had in the Boston…and greater Boston, for that matter…area. I pledge to forcibly crash on friends’ couches all over the city, as well as frequent restaurants, bars, and boutiques far beyond what my budget allows. God knows food, fashion, and frivolity occupy my mind more than my reluctantly accepted communications job…in other word, T partiers, you had me at hello.
And who is my Lioness, and why is she prep’d? I’ll let her tell you.
As a bright-eyed 14 year old just about to start my freshman year at one of (if not the) most prestigious prep schools in the nation, I have absolutely no idea what to expect. The unrealistically over-the-top world created by easy read chick-lit such as the series Private and The It Girl? Or a bunch of super-smart nerds crammed into a small breeding ground in hopes to produce the next world leaders? A healthy blend of both?
I can’t tell you much yet, but in a few days you can start your journey to at least pretending to be an insider. See, even before I wanted to attend a private school I had always wondered what really went down behind the walls of such an institution. The scandals, the rumors, the private lives of the idle rich uncovered at last! Mind you, the school I’m gonna be shipped off to in a few days is (or at least, I like to think it is) more of the intellectual, get-the-best-secondary-education there is type of school than the “public school- qu’est-que c’est?” type. But hey, who knows what we’ll find?!
For those of you wondering the relevance of a prep school to a Boston blog, it’s quite simple: prep schools are uber new England-y, and boston is possibly the most influential and important city in new England. The Boston suburbs alone supply New England boarding/prep schools with almost 50% of all applicants!*
Anyways, stick around. Prestige is right around the corner.
*Well, I’m sure it’s something like that.
Hoping you can help spread the word about this show, which is coming to the Boston area this weekend….
